Ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration, and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center. Monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with related medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.

We are seeking a Float Clinical Pharmacist to provide clinical and operational support in multiple inpatient practice areas — helping ensure safe, effective, and high-quality medication use for our patients.
Position Highlights
Diverse Practice Experience: Serve as a key member of the pharmacy team supporting a range of inpatient units and specialty areas. Float pharmacists gain broad exposure to a variety of patient populations, including general medicine, surgery, neurology, and perioperative care.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s in pharmacy or PharmD degree required.
Experience: PGY-1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience (three years). PGY-2 residency is preferred for specialty areas.
Licensure/Certifications: Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Job requires sitting for prolonged periods; repetitive motion: typing. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull less than 20 lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
Compensation
The pay rate for this role starts at $64.37 per hour. New hire compensation will be determined by education and experience.

Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen. The starting base rate for this role is $64.37 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
