Responsibilities: Under the supervision of a physician, the Pharmacy Technician will provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients. This includes technical aspects of oral medication dispensing, record keeping and inventory control as well as helping with financial assistance.
Prepares and labels medications under physician's orders
Verifies patient demographics, insurance information and prescription information
Processes prescriptions and bills insurance for payment
Runs claims through designated pharmacy software
Interprets insurance benefits and prior authorizations
Reviews and signs paperwork
Troubleshoots Medicare part B verification requirements
Submits prior authorizations
Checks for drugs interactions
Applies for financial assistance through cancer foundations and co-pay assistance for high dollar oral drugs
Tracks and reports monthly inventory in retail computer
Ensures that the most cost effective drugs are ordered from vendors
Labels prescriptions and ensures they are checked correctly by providers
Ensures prescriptions and paperwork are being signed off on by a provider
Obtains patient's signature on all medications being dispensed
Files and stores prescriptions
Files and maintains daily reports
Documents all interactions with the patient in the EMR
Oversees pharmaceutical inventory management
Assists patients with co-payments and financial assistance programs
High School diploma or equivalent, required
3-5 years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting
Experience in a pharmacy setting, required
Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacy software and operations, highly preferred
Ability to perform tasks accurately and efficiently when inputting information, required
Basic math skills, organization skills, and the ability to operate a computer, required
Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board, preferred
Completion of a pharmacy technician program, preferred
This position is 100% on-site.
