This position is office based in our Birmingham, AL Pharmacy location. If you live in AZ, this position will be eligible for Telecommute. The regular work hours will be an 8-hour shift, Monday - Friday from 10:30 am - 7:00 pm local time. In addition, there is an occasional Saturday day shift rotation, as assigned, and overtime as needed per business needs, however, candidates must be available to work between the hours of 7am - 9pm local time, Monday - Saturday, as assigned and overtime as needed per business needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Verifies Specialty prescriptions; evaluates patient histories and performs drug utilization review
- Interprets physicians' orders on Specialty medications; creates, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from the computer system and verifies whether the order is reimbursable
- Consults with customers, patients and/or physicians regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions
- Analyzes and investigates concerns; Provides explanations and interpretations within area of expertise
- Provides health education and coaches consumers on treatment alternatives to assist them in best decision making
- Identifies problems or gaps in care offering opportunity for intervention
- Takes in-bound calls and/or places out-bound calls as dictated by consumer and business needs
- Special projects, initiatives, and other job duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- PharmD or Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy
- Current, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the State of Alabama or Arizona
- 2+ years of Pharmacist experience
- Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, Outlook and other proprietary software systems with the ability to navigate while speaking on the phone
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, prior to employment to ensure compliance. Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Leadership experience working as a PIC (Pharmacist in Charge) or a Pharmacy Manager
- Experience with Specialty and infusion therapies, Specialty disease management program, rare diseases, Oncology, REMS, and LDD programs
- Proficiency in Microsoft TEAMS
- Solid inbound and outbound telephonic skills, or ability to quickly learn
- Excellent clinical skills and judgment
- Efficient written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work under pressure and appropriately prioritize responsibilities
