This position is full-time, M-F, day shift and provides a comprehensive benefit package including tuition assistance and health and wellbeing resources. It is partially remote with a current rotation of one week in office at our St. Paul location (approximately one mile from the University of Minnesota) followed by one week remote work.
The Patient Financial Advocate is a key member of the pharmacy team, using strong knowledge of insurance and third party billing to pro-actively investigate specialty patient coverage benefits and offer financial assistance to facilitateaccess to specialty medication and promote compliance. This position also acts as the expert problem solver and resource for resolving issues and questions.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and customer focused pharmacy technicianlooking create strong relationships with providers and patients to build specialty services and to expand their knowledge of funding resources to provide the highest level of assistance available.
Using expert knowledge of third party payors and funding resources, this position will:
-Quickly forge and sustain strong relationships with providers and patients to build specialty services.
-Improve processes to facilitate communication and service between patient, provider and pharmacy teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of all take-home medications.
-Meet with clinic staff regularly to foster relationship-building and represent Fairview Specialty Pharmacy Insurance Specialist.
-Provide exceptional service, act as a resource for patients and other customers, and guide them through the prescription ordering and payment processes.
-Contact insurance carriers, benefits offices and patients to determine benefit breakdown information, including new and ongoing eligibility status.
-Inform patient of pharmacy benefits coverage; answer related questions to ensure patients' understanding of their benefits.
-Work with insurance companies and clinics to obtain prior authorizations and appeals.
-Utilize established protocols for communication of benefit investigation and insurance outcomes - comment lines and patient notes in EnterpriseRx.
-Understand all third party and Medicare/Medicaid regulations and billing guidelines as they pertain to specialty pharmacy benefits.
-Understand billing primary, secondary and tertiary insurance claims, including copay assistance.
-Exhaust all available appropriate possibilities for third-party or supplementary resources for drug costs and provide recommendations as necessary.
-Screen patients for financial assistance eligibility by gathering financial information including income, assets, and estimates of charges for service, as appropriate.
-Coordinate with social worker at point of creating a payment plan as appropriate.
-Work with Fairview Pharmacies, PBO, Admissions, Transplant Departments, Medical Records and others as necessary to coordinate financial assistance.
-Explain patient charges and communicate expectations of payment with patient; work with patient to determine optimal payment plan.
This position requires three years of pharmacy or healthcare experience with direct patient contact, a demonstrated commitment to providing superior customer service and pharmacy technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
