This is above the full performance level for pharmacy technician. Employees at this grade level must be certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and serve as the coordination of care technician. This technician will primarily work to coordinate with other pharmacy technicians and pharmacists to complete discharge orders and facilitate the processing of prescriptions from the community. The incumbent is expected to work independently, minimal supervision. Duties: Prioritizes and coordinates technician workflow within the department; organizes filling functions, focusing on discharge orders and care in the community prescriptions. The incumbent supports the coordinator technician in automated dispensing within the department as well as functioning as a superuser for that automation. This position also supports the procurement technician with inventory control and may be required to support controlled substance dispensing. This position facilitates training, gives guidance, and assistance to the other GS-5 pharmacy technicians working in that area. This position will also be assigned higher complexity projects and tasks by a pharmacy supervisor or manager: a) Manage and coordinate the filling of outpatient discharge prescriptions. b) Assist the pharmacist in medication reconciliation of discharge orders entered. c) Assist pharmacist to work with nursing on disposition of discharge patients. d) Coordinates with nurses on units to dispense outpatient prescriptions or supplies to patients prior to discharge. e) Follows procedures to properly document and address out of stock medications and missing orders with the discharge pharmacist. f) Communicates need for further medication review post-discharge with PACT pharmacy team. g) Triage faxed prescriptions from outside providers including verifying eligibility for Care in the Community. h) Assist pharmacist with acquiring necessary information to process prescriptions from approved Community Care visits. i) Maintain records of all Community Care prescriptions. j) Performs all the duties of lower graded technicians, if required (refer to GS-5 Pharmacy Technician function statement). k) Assists in other patient care areas as deemed necessary to maintain the consistency of overall pharmacy services. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday 8am - 4:30pm. May also be required to cover other tours when needed including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays per the schedule or for coverage at HJH facility.
